I’m Not the PR for You If...
When a consultant surgeon or private clinic owner reaches out to RL Comms, they are often surprised by my onboarding process. I don't immediately send over a contract. Instead, we have a very candid conversation to establish if we are actually a good fit.
As an independent medical PR consultant, I operate on a strict exclusivity policy (representing only one leading voice per medical specialism) and I manage every single account personally - there are no juniors I hand off to. Because of this, my time is fiercely protected. I only partner with ambitious medics and clinics where I know I can deliver exceptional, Tier-1 national press.
A successful media strategy requires absolute mutual trust. To save us both time, here are four clear signs that I am not the right medical PR for you.
1. You are looking for a 'yes' person
If you want an agency that simply takes dictation, writes exactly what you tell them, and never pushes back, we won't work well together. My job is not to stroke your ego; my job is to make you irresistible to the national press. If your proposed press release is too clinical, too boring, or too promotional, I will tell you. You are hiring me for my senior strategic counsel and my knowledge of exactly what health editors want - which means occasionally challenging your ideas.
2. You are only looking for a social media manager
There is a fundamental difference between an integrated digital communications strategy and simply churning out content. While I do manage the social media channels for several of my retained clients, I am a PR-first agency. My social media support is offered as a "Brand Guardian" extension - designed to amplify your Tier-1 press coverage, translate complex medical papers into digestible posts and ensure your clinical voice is immaculate across every platform. If your only goal is to hire someone to jump on viral TikTok dances or design Canva graphics in isolation without a wider media strategy, we won't be the right fit.
3. You’re afraid to have an opinion
Journalists do not want to interview a textbook. If a health editor is writing a feature on a controversial new weight-loss drug or a viral skincare trend, they need an expert who is willing to take a stance. If you are overly cautious, refuse to offer an opinion, or want to "sit on the fence" for fear of offending anyone, we will struggle to get you featured. The media rewards brave, evidence-based opinions.
4. You don't value exclusivity
Many larger PR agencies operate on a "scattergun" approach, pitching four different dermatologists or three different eye surgeons to the same journalist and seeing who gets picked. I don't work that way. I operate a strict "one per specialism" rule. This engenders immense loyalty and ensures there is never a conflict of interest. If you want to be treated as a priority rather than just another name on a massive agency roster, you are in the right place.
Are we a match?
